Federal Income Tax Withholding Change

Employees may notice a change in their net pay on the March 20, 2009 paycheck.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued revised tables for federal tax withholding for wages paid on or after March 20, 2009. These tables were revised due to changes to tax law made in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Employees are not required to complete a new W-4 for federal tax withholding. The revised tables were developed to take into account all current tax provisions.

Employees that want to change the amount withheld for federal tax withholding should complete a new W-4.   The new W-4 should be returned to HRS.

Compensation and Benefits Presentation

Each year HRS provides benefits eligible employees with a Total Compensation Statement and Individual Benefit Summary.  Both of these items are available on GUS under the Payroll and Personnel menu.

HRS has a PowerPoint entitled, "Compensation and Benefits Presentation" that will provide a brief explanation of the total compensation statement, benefit summary and other PSU benefits.  To advance the presentation, "click" the mouse or press "enter."

W-2 Reprints

Employees needing duplicate W-2's for years 2003 through 2008 should use the W-2 Reissue Request found in Employee Self Service at https://sharp.ks.gov/psp/ESS/ .

After logging into the system and selecting W-2 Reissue Request, the employee will be asked to review the Tax Address and make any needed corrections. Please note that the Tax Address is where the reissued W-2 will be mailed, so it is imperative that the address is correct. The employee will also need to specify for which tax year (2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, or 2003) the reissued W-2 is needed.

Duplicate W-2's for 2003 - 2007 are currently available, and duplicate W-2's for 2008 will be available starting on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Please note that duplicate W-2's for the year 2003 will no longer be available after mid-April 2009.

See the HRS page on W-2 Reprints for more detailed information.
