SIFE to compete at nationals again
04/07/2009
For the second year in a row, members of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) at Pittsburg State University have scored top honors at the organization’s regional competition, accepting an invitation to compete at nationals later this spring.
Seven members of SIFE presented a multi-media presentation recently at the Regional SIFE Competition in Rogers, Ark. The PSU team was one of five schools out of nearly 30 competitors chosen to go to nationals, which will be held May 10-12 in Philadelphia. In total, 110 SIFE groups from schools across the nation will compete at nationals.
“I am so proud of the students,” said SIFE advisor Robyn Hess, who oversees about 30 student members. “They have worked extremely hard on this year’s outreach projects and presentation, and they deserve this recognition.”
The group delivered a 25-minute presentation that focused on multiple community outreach projects, such as Just Imagine Nation (a national market economy exercise provided for 170 area 4th graders), Business Ethics Week (which highlighted local business ethics and featured a panel discussion on big-industry failures and bailouts), and Growing Green Gorillas (a weeklong recycling event involving elementary students scheduled before this month’s Earth Day).
Presenters from PSU SIFE include Brittany Squire of Ransom, Kan., Jason Landrum of Mound City, Kan., Katie Gull of Girard, Kan., Cindy Serrano of Grandview, Mo., Thomas Gregory and Steven Norris of Ft. Scott, Kan., and Emily Morrell of Independence, Kan.
The group will host a dress rehearsal in preparation for nationals later this month.
